An 8-year-old girl is reported to have been threatened with a shotgun as she sold Girl Scout cookies in her neighborhood in the far southern reaches of St. Louis.
The command post at St. Louis police headquarters was unable this morning to give any details. But television news reports agreed on this account:
Tuesday evening, a city firefighter set out with the girl, his daughter, to seek buyers in their neighborhood, the 4800 block of Hamburg Avenue.
As the father and his girl turned away from one unopened door, the door opened -- and an elderly woman stepped out, bearing a shotgun.
The father and daughter easily outran the woman, made it back home and called police.
The firefighter was identified by KSDK-TV and KMOV-TV as Terry Tedder. KSDK-TV quoted Tedder as saying authorities had deciding against pressing charges against the woman, who is 78. The station said the woman had told police that she had thought the knock on her door was the work of somebody who has been harassing her.
KMOX-TV said police had confiscated the woman's shotgun.
