Lawyer Jeff Cooper, chairman of
St. Louis Soccer United, plans to present a proposal Monday to the city council of Collinsville, Ill., for help to fund a soccer stadium and mixed-use development.
Cooper, a co-founder of the SimmonsCooper law firm, headquartered in East Alton, Ill., intends on securing a Major League Soccer franchise for the 2009 season, according to a release. "There is no city in the United States that is more deserving of Major League Soccer - and more ready for it - than St. Louis," Cooper, 38, said in a statement. "As important, we'd be the ideal expansion site for MLS with our central location, population base, media market size, and passion for soccer at all levels. It's a perfect marriage, and it's waiting to happen."
