St Louis Missouri News (stlouismo.com) – Governor Matt Blunt and First Lady Melanie Blunt are promoting public awareness of the health and safety issues Missouri children face during National Safe Kids Week, April 26-May 4.
“The children of Missouri are the future of our state and of our communities,” Governor Matt Blunt said. “Raising awareness about the potential threats to their health and well being is a top priority to my administration.”
“Children are precious gifts, and keeping them safe will ensure a brighter future for children, Missouri families, and our state,” Mrs. Blunt said. “National Safe Kids Week serves as a reminder to all of us to be aware of our children’s health and safety.”
Governor Matt Blunt is encouraging the public to educate themselves, their children, and their communities about the health and safety issues many Missouri children can potentially face. By encouraging such education through Safe Kids Week the public will be better prepared to deal with situations of child safety, and health issues in the early stages of their child’s life.
Working to support the education of the public on such safety issues, Governor Matt Blunt has taken many proactive steps in legislation to improve child safety. Governor Matt Blunt has signed legislation improving child safety when traveling, and sex offender legislation giving Missouri some of the toughest sex offender laws in the nation. The governor and first lady are also avid supporters of Missouri’s crisis nurseries allowing children to be placed in nurturing environments away from volatile homes.
Governor Matt Blunt hopes that Missourians contribute to the efforts to create a safer environment for children all around the state. Through community safety events, and media attention, organizations, such as Safe Kids USA, work to provide lifesaving information and tips to families all over the nation. Interactive demonstrations where families can receive important safety information and free safety devices are only one of the many ways safe kids week makes children’s safety a top priority and helps children avoid injury.
