ST. LOUIS NEWS (stlouismo.com) Gov. Matt Blunt today announced that Marian Middle School in St. Louis has been approved to receive $39,400 in Youth Opportunities Program tax credits to fund an after school program for young women who attend the school.
“The best solutions for helping young Missourians succeed are most often found in our local communities where people give generously of their time and resources,” Gov. Blunt said. “Those involved in this effort at Marion Middle School share this commitment to young women and I am pleased we are able to provide these resources to help them succeed.”
Marion Middle School will use the resources to fund their After School Enrichment Program and Graduate Support Program for economically disadvantaged girls 11-18 years of age. These programs help to re-enforce the principles of the regular academic curriculum and will provide opportunities to help empower each girl to choose a healthy lifestyle, foster life long learning, and build self-esteem.
The Youth Opportunities Program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, provides tax credits to organizations administering positive youth development or crime prevention projects.
