St. Louis, which since 2000 has consistently ranked in the top five for the diseases, tallied the highest rates of any county or independent city in the United States for the second straight year.
When the entire metropolitan area is included, the region ranks eighth in both gonorrhea and chlamydia infection rates among the largest cities in the country. The St. Louis area improved from its 2006 rankings of fifth and sixth for the diseases, respectively.
